PANAMA CANAL PORT AUTHORITY – INNOVATION CHALLENGE
Emission analysis
There are many new environmental regulations adopted worldwide. Panama wants to make sure to comply to them and protect the environment. Therefore, they are looking for solutions to analyse emissions data in relation to environmental protection in Panama waters (i.e. migration of whales).
The main topics being:
– Verifying the compliance rate under the Traffic Separation Scheme and the 10 knots VSR from August to November
– Calculate the emission reduction from the VSR and scenario modeling to expand the scope
– Calculate the environmental benefit from the current whale speed limit on the Pacific side
– Present scenarios if there is an optimal beneficial speed other than 10 nautical miles on Pacific and Caribbean sides.
